From the shop of a luthier of 15 years. A small guitar with a big sound. This parlor size is easy to wrap your arms around and provides a loud, responsive and warm tone. Brazilian Rosewood and Western Red Cedar pair well to provide a crisp, projective quality.
A falcate bracing creates unique, modern voicing. Our system is curved with carbon fiber reinforcement. This ensures a lower mass and higher stiffness in the top, enhancing the lower frequencies. We test our guitars with a tension rod after building to make sure they are within appropriate deflection limits. We design for these to undergo minimal bellying.
A classic feeling with rich detail is present in the marquetry. Snake wood binding on the fretboard and body binding textures the edge. Accents in black-white-black border the bridge, headstock, fretboard and body, frame contact points. Herringbone purfling adds a classic style. The fretboard inlay is hard to see from far away but pops up close. An emerald green inlay adorns the fretboard markers.
The innovative split saddle bridge, unique to Portland Guitar, provides perfect compensation and intonation up the 12th fret. Each saddle can be adjusted. Springs are used to make sure the saddles stay in place when tuning.
A cantilever neck is utilized to change the action at the upper frets to your preference. It is accessible from the heel underneath the strap pin. An allen wrench is inserted and with a small turn the action is changed.
The action is set medium-low with some tilt from the neck. The fretboard is floating which allow for easier access to the higher frets. The neck shape is a medium thick rounded C-shape. There are 20 frets total and 14 clear to the body.
A k&K pure mini is installed in this guitar. It has three contact pads that sit beneath the soundboard. This provides excellent reproduction of the tone from the top.
This is built to last for generations. We will provide any repairs, support and warranty work needed at no cost. The price includes a hard-shell case and shipping.
